My name is Jackie Bonner. I have travelled and lived in many places and different countries in my life, however I now call Cape Breton Home. For 10 years I worked as a public school teacher: physical education, science, outdoor education, high school biology, and many other courses. I even taught art and french! While in Alberta I was lucky enough to be assigned to schools that served the challenged populations. I worked onsite with kiddos 13-18 challenged by addictions. Specifically, I worked in a Wilderness School where the kiddos would come for a period of time and work on their challenges at the same time we took them canoeing, camping, hiking, mountain biking, climbing, and swimming. Being around adventure therapy felt more my passion.
Having this experience of working alongside social workers and psychologists at the same time called me into working as a clinical therapist. I have worked in the downtown Calgary Counseling Center and served all walks of life and most areas of therapy. Afterwards I had the experience of working at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital working in the emergency department and in urgent care. I now work in private practice, raising my kids, going on amazing outdoor adventures, and getting to work with my clients who are courageous individuals.
I am a busy Mama of two and a true outdoors enthusiast. I like to spend my time in nature, my garden, reading, or biking around. I love to be creative and spend my time adventuring; whether that is mountain biking, hiking, camping, backpacking, canoeing, bird watching, swimming at the beach, or climbing. I have a personal goal of building an indoor climbing wall.
As of October 5th, 2026 our North Sydney clinic will be relocating to Membertou.
