I help adults aged 18 and up better understand what they are experiencing, change patterns that are interfering with their well-being, and move toward meaningful goals. I provide therapy and psychological assessment in a safe, collaborative environment where you can feel understood, supported, and comfortable exploring both your challenges and strengths. My doctoral clinical psychology training has included primary care, private practice, psychiatric hospital, and university settings, giving me experience with a wide range of concerns and levels of complexity.
I work with ADHD, OCD, major depression, low mood, bipolar disorder, social anxiety, generalized anxiety, panic attacks, insomnia, phobias, trauma-related concerns, interpersonal and relationship difficulties, life transitions, workplace issues, and career decisions.
My approach is person-centred and tailored to your individual needs and goals. Our initial sessions focus on developing a detailed understanding of your concerns, experiences, strengths, and what you would like to change. I work from an integrative framework, drawing on cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), solution-focused therapy (SFT) and DBT-informed approaches. When working with OCD, I use exposure and response prevention (ERP), often alongside CBT and ACT. For interpersonal and relationship concerns, I also draw on principles from the Gottman Method to support healthier communication, emotional connection, and conflict management.
My work is trauma-informed, and when appropriate, I incorporate memory reconsolidation approaches. This may involve briefly and safely revisiting distressing emotional experiences, identifying the beliefs and emotional meanings connected to them, and developing new perspectives or experiences of safety, understanding, and empowerment. This process can help update the ways that experiences from recent events to those occurring in childhood or adolescence continue to influence present-day emotional reactions, relationship patterns, self-image, coping strategies, and behaviours.
I also provide psychodiagnostic assessments for people seeking greater clarity about their mental health. These assessments may be helpful when concerns are complex and require differential diagnosis, when previous treatment has not led to meaningful improvement, a diagnosis is needed for personal, educational, or workplace reasons, or you simply want to better understand what you are experiencing and why. My assessments typically integrate clinical interviews, standardized measures, personality assessment, and structured diagnostic interviews to provide clear conclusions, a diagnosis when appropriate, and practical treatment recommendations including therapy referrals tailored to your specific needs. I also provide ADHD-specific assessments and psychoeducational assessments for learning disorders in adults.
Note: Paul provides therapy and psychological assessment services under the supervision of a licensed psychologist registered with the Nova Scotia Regulator of Psychology.
Outside of therapy and assessment work, I enjoy unwinding with my partner and young daughter, picking berries along Nova Scotia’s scenic trails, cheering for the Winnipeg Jets and Halifax Mooseheads, cooking overly elaborate weekend meals, and taking on carpentry projects during the summer.
As of October 5th, 2026 our North Sydney clinic will be relocating to Membertou.
