Therapy & Assessments in Halifax, NS
Answers about what's going on, and trauma-focused therapy to work through it, for adults, children, and youth in Halifax.
Our Halifax clinic on Joseph Howe Drive offers in-person therapy and psychological assessments, with online psychotherapy anywhere in Nova Scotia.
"Everyone thinks I've got it figured out. I don't."
From the outside, it looks fine. You’re getting the kids to school, hitting your deadlines, answering the group chat. Inside, you’re braced all the time and can’t remember when that started. Maybe you’ve wondered for a while if there’s a reason things feel harder for you than they seem to for everyone else, and never had the time to find out.
Our Halifax clinic is where you can get both the answer and the help. Our therapists and psychologists take the time to understand what’s underneath, so you can stop bracing and start living.
Let’s start with a conversation.

Approaches We Use at Our Halifax Location
Every therapist here has more than one way to work, and they pick what fits you. Depending on what you’re dealing with and how you prefer to work, that might include:
EMDR Therapy
EMDR helps the brain finish processing memories that got stuck, so they stop hijacking the present. Offered by several of our Halifax therapists, in person and online.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
CBT helps you spot the thoughts and habits that keep the problem going, and practice something different.
Trauma-Focused CBT
A version of CBT built for processing trauma at a safe pace, often used with children and teens.
Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)
CPT works on the beliefs a traumatic experience left behind, one at a time.
Mindfulness-Based CBT
Mindfulness-Based CBT slows down the thought loops that keep you up at night.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
ACT makes room for hard feelings so they stop steering, and points you back toward what matters.
Internal Family Systems (IFS)
IFS gets curious about the parts of you that learned to protect you long ago and haven’t clocked out since.
Somatic Psychotherapy
Somatic therapy for the trauma the body remembers even when the mind has moved on.
Exposure & Response Prevention (ERP)
The best-supported approach for OCD, loosening the grip of compulsions step by step.
Play-Based Therapy
For younger kids who don’t yet have the words. Play is how they show us what’s going on.
Gender-Affirming Care
Affirming therapy and WPATH readiness assessments for transgender and gender-diverse clients.

Why Choose East Coast Psychotherapy & Trauma Clinic in Halifax?
Answers and Treatment, Same Building
Most clinics do therapy or assessments. We do both here. If a diagnosis question comes up mid-therapy, the psychologist is down the hall, and if an assessment points toward therapy, you’re already in the right place.
Trauma Is What We Do
We’re a trauma clinic first. Our goal is for what happened to stop running your life, and everything else we treat, from anxiety to sleep, gets looked at through that lens.
Central and Easy to Reach
Joseph Howe Drive is a few minutes from the Armdale Rotary, Bayers Road, and Highway 102, so we’re a short drive from most of HRM and an easy stop on the way in from the Valley or the South Shore.
Matched by People Who Know the Team
Your free consult is with our intake team, who know every clinician’s training and style. You get the right fit the first time, not a few false starts.
Care at Every Price Point
Our reduced-fee student clinic offers supervised sessions at $112.50, in English and French, for anyone who’d otherwise put therapy off because of cost.
Meet During Weekdays, Weekends, Evenings
Weekday, evening, and Saturday appointments at the clinic, and video sessions anywhere in Nova Scotia for the days when the drive isn’t worth it.

How Therapy Works at Our Halifax Clinic
Our job is to help you feel safe, understood, and taken seriously, with therapy that’s caring, culturally inclusive, and gender-affirming. Here’s how it usually goes:

1. A free consult
Our intake team hears what's going on, answers your questions, and matches you with the right clinician.

2. A plan that fits you
In your first sessions, your therapist gets to know your history and your goals, and together you decide what to work on and how.

3. Steady work, for as long as it helps
Regular sessions, in person or online. We check in, adjust, and keep going until the change holds.

Where do your Halifax clients come from?
All over HRM, including downtown, the west end, south end, and north end, Fairview, Clayton Park, Rockingham, Spryfield, Armdale, Purcell’s Cove, Bedford, and Kearney Lake. Many also travel in from Elmsdale, Enfield, Windsor, Chester, Lunenburg, Bridgewater, Truro, and the Musquodoboit Valley. Online therapy is available anywhere in Nova Scotia.
How do I book?
Call our Halifax office, fill out the form on our Halifax contact page, or book your intake call directly online. Intake follows up within two business days.
Why is the free consult with intake?
Because intake knows every therapist on the team. They can hear what you need and match you well, rather than sending you to whoever has an opening.
How long until my first therapy appointment?
We don’t run a waitlist for therapy. Most new clients are seen within two weeks of intake, and we’ll tell you up front if that’s not possible.
How long is the wait for an assessment?
Our psychologists are running a waitlist for assessments, and intake will give you a realistic timeline on your first call.
What does it cost?
Therapy is $185 to $225 for 50 minutes, depending on your clinician’s discipline, and supervised intern sessions are $112.50. Assessment fees are listed on our fees and policies page.
Do you direct bill?
For CAF, VAC, RCMP, and NIHB, yes. For personal plans, you pay at your appointment and submit the receipt to your insurer.
When is the Halifax clinic open?
We’re open on weekdays, evenings, and Saturdays. We’re available to meet you in person and online.
