Therapy Services

Trauma-focused therapy for adults, couples, teens, and children that gets to the root of what's been weighing on you.

In-person therapy in Membertou and Halifax, and online psychotherapy anywhere in Nova Scotia. Evening and weekend appointments available at both clinics.

"When did life get this heavy?"

If something has been weighing on you for a while, and it’s starting to keep you from the people and the parts of life you used to enjoy, you don’t have to keep carrying it by yourself. Maybe it’s a memory that won’t leave, a relationship that’s gone silent, a kid who’s struggling, or grief that hasn’t lifted. Whatever it is, it’s enough to ask for support.

Our Membertou and Halifax therapists take the time to understand what’s underneath, so you can get relief that lasts.

Let’s start with a conversation.

What We Treat

Trauma is where our clinic started, and it’s still the heart of what we do. Most of what brings people through our doors traces back to something that happened, or kept happening, and never got worked through.

Specialized trauma treatment that helps painful memories loosen their grip.

Caring, talk-based support for desire, intimacy, and sexual concerns.

Understand what’s driving the worry, and get your days back from it.

Find your way back to the energy and interest that went missing.

From betrayal to boundaries, work through what’s hurting and decide what comes next.

Find room to grieve, at your pace, with support that doesn’t rush you.

Gentle, compassionate support while life takes an unfamiliar shape

Steadier footing between the highs and lows, alongside your medical care.

Quiet the intrusive thoughts and loosen the grip of compulsions.

Learn to say what you need without the guilt that usually follows.

Support when a change or stressor is harder to absorb than it should be.

Understand where it comes from and stop it costing you what matters.

Put down what you’ve been carrying before it takes you down with it.

Support for the job that’s wearing you out or the change you’re weighing.

Get to the root of the nights you dread, so rest comes easier.

Process traumatic experiences and feel present in your body and your life again.

Help adjusting to a body and a life that don’t work the way they used to.

Why Choose East Coast Psychotherapy & Trauma Clinic For Therapy?

Many clinics in Nova Scotia are trauma-informed. We built ours as an anxiety and trauma clinic that goes further, into specialized trauma resolution. Coping skills matter, and we teach them, but our goal is for the thing itself to stop running your life.

We don’t keep a waiting list for therapy. Most new clients have their first appointment within two weeks of intake, and we’ll tell you up front if that’s not the case.

Your free consult is with our intake team, who know our clinicians well. They take the time to understand what you’re looking for before pairing you with a therapist, so you’re not starting over with someone who isn’t the right fit.

Beth started this clinic because meaningful trauma therapy doesn’t fit a set number of sessions. Treatment here is shaped by you and your goals, not by a limit on the calendar.

Our therapists see clients on weekdays, evenings, and Saturdays at both clinics, and online anywhere in Nova Scotia. Therapy should fit into your life, not the other way around.

If a question about ADHD, autism, or a diagnosis comes up in therapy, our assessment team is part of the same clinic. No new intake, no telling your story from the beginning.

Our Therapy Process

Our team has the experience, tools, and support to help you feel safe and heard. When you work with us, our goal is therapy that changes your life: caring, culturally inclusive, and gender-affirming, so you can bridge the gap from where you are to where you want to be.
We use a three-step approach to help you move forward:

1. We get to know you

Start with a free consult with our intake team, who match you with the right therapist. Then, we take the time to understand your struggles, your life history, and your goals.

2. We develop a roadmap

Together, you and your therapist build a customized plan. You'll know what you're working on, how, and why, with the tools you need to move forward.

3. We support you on your path

Have weekly or biweekly sessions, in person or online, for as long as you need. We check in along the way and adjust as you go, until the changes stick.

Questions About Therapy

Fill out the contact form for our Halifax or Membertou office, or give us a call. Our intake team will follow up within two business days to answer your questions and match you with the right therapist.

Yes, and it’s free. The consult is with our intake team rather than a therapist. They know our clinicians’ training and availability well, so they can point you in the right direction from the first call.

We don’t keep a waiting list for therapy. Most new clients get their first appointment within two weeks of completing intake, and we’ll tell you up front if that’s not possible.

Fees are based on the recommended rates for each practitioner’s discipline and range from $185 to $225 per 50-minute session. Couples therapy runs in 90-minute sessions and is billed for that time. Low-cost sessions with a supervised clinical intern are $112.50. Full details are on our fees and policies page.

We work with adults, couples, teens, and children as young as six, depending on therapist availability at each clinic. Ask our intake team what’s possible for your child.

Counselling and psychotherapy are reimbursable through many private health plans. Coverage depends on your plan and on which type of clinician it recognizes, since psychologists, clinical social workers, and counselling therapists are covered differently. Check with your insurer before booking.

We direct bill for members of the CAF, VAC, and RCMP, and for those eligible for NIHB benefits. For personal health plans, you pay at your appointment and submit the receipt to your insurer. Many insurers reimburse within a day or two through their app, and therapy can often be claimed as a medical expense at tax time.

Research supports secure video therapy as an effective alternative to in-office sessions, and many of our clients prefer it. It works well for people outside Membertou or Halifax, and for anyone who’d rather skip the drive.

Yes. We welcome referrals from family doctors and other health professionals, who can send client information by phone, fax, or mail. You don’t need a referral to book yourself.

Our therapists in Halifax and Membertou see clients on weekdays, evenings, and Saturdays. Online sessions across Nova Scotia follow the same schedule.

Still have questions? We're happy to answer them.

Life After Therapy

Our hope and goal is that people leave here with more than a few coping tools, that they leave with lasting change so you start to thrive. Over time, our clients tell us they notice:

When you're ready to start, we're ready to walk it with you.
